1. Who we are

Birtwistle & Sons Window Cleaners ("we", "us", "our") operates this website. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is used. This policy explains what we collect, what we do with it, and the rights you have over it under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

2. The information we collect

• Information you give us. When you complete a form on this site or contact us directly, we collect the details you provide — typically your name, email address, telephone number and the content of your message.
• Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we may collect basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device and the pages you view, through cookies and similar technologies.

3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis

The UK GDPR requires us to have a lawful basis for using your personal information. Ours are:

• To respond to your enquiry — our legitimate interests in answering people who contact us, or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
• To provide the services you ask us for — performance of our contract with you.
• To keep proper business records — a legal obligation, and our legitimate interests.
• To keep this website secure and working properly, and to understand how it is used — our legitimate interests, and your consent where non-essential cookies are involved.
• To send you marketing, where you have asked us to or where you are an existing customer and we are offering similar products — your consent, or the “soft opt-in” permitted by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. You can opt out at any time.

We do not make decisions that produce legal effects about you based on automated processing alone, and we do not carry out profiling of that kind.

4. Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. Strictly necessary cookies — those required to make the site work, remember your choices — are set automatically, as the law permits. Any non-essential cookies, such as analytics or advertising cookies, are only set with your consent, and you can withdraw that consent at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the site may then not work as intended.

5. Who we share it with

• Service providers who act for us, such as website hosting and email delivery. They act only on our instructions and are bound by contract to keep your information secure.
• Professional advisers such as accountants and lawyers, where necessary.
• Authorities or other third parties where we are required to do so by law, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

6. Sending information outside the UK

Some of our service providers may store or process information outside the UK. Where that happens, we make sure it is protected to the standard required by UK law — either because the country is covered by UK adequacy regulations, or by putting appropriate safeguards in place such as the ICO’s International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

7. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it. Enquiries and correspondence are normally kept for up to 24 months from our last contact with you. Records we must keep for accounting or tax purposes are retained for six years after the end of the relevant financial year. After that it is securely deleted or anonymised.

8. How we keep it safe

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information: traffic to this site is encrypted in transit, and access to personal information is limited to those who need it. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, but we take our obligations seriously and will notify you and the ICO where we are legally required to do so.

9. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• Be informed about how we use your information — which is what this policy is for.
• Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Have inaccurate information corrected, or incomplete information completed.
• Ask us to delete your information, where there is no good reason for us to keep it.
• Ask us to restrict how we use it, or to object to our using it — including objecting to direct marketing at any time.
• Ask us to transfer your information to you or another provider in a portable format.
• Withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.

Exercising these rights is free, and we will respond within one month. You can contact us by telephone on 07591668335, or by using the contact form on this website.

10. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

11. Children

This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for example if we change how we work or if the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised, and the current version always appears on this page.

13. Contact us

You can contact us by telephone on 07591668335, or by using the contact form on this website.
